We Need a Little Help from Our Friends

Babe was found with his hind leg shattered. Three surgeries to repair the leg cost almost $4000.

If you sometimes find yourself with too much month at the end of the money, you can guess what it’s like for a small, private rescue. Over the years Silver Rescue has helped dozens of cats and dogs with basic needs such as food, litter, vaccinations, heartworm and feline testing, and spay/neuter – all on a shoestring. And then there are the more long-term complex and expensive heartworm treatments and surgeries.

This is a typical Silver Rescue shopping list:

1. Well-cat basic veterinary care per cat =  $150
2. Well-dog basic veterinary care per dog  = $250
3. Dog obedience training  = $200
4. Treatment of serious conditions or surgeries = $500 - $5,000
5. Food per month for dogs and cats  = $400-$500
6. Health maintenance per month for dogs and cats  = $400
7. Laundry and cleaning expenses per month = $75
8. Uncompensated animal care = Priceless

Bella was from an abuse court case. Court costs, boarding, vetting and Heartworm treatment added up to $2000.

Buster, a prime example of back yard breeding gone wrong, was born crippled. His constant medical needs and ultimate amputation of his leg eventually added up to approximately $7000.

OO lost her eye to abuse when just a little kitten. Surgery to remove the eye was $1000.

Joy has intestinal lymphoma. Her chemo, prednisone and special food, costs about $150 a month.

Lil’ Bit was abandoned because she had a paralyzing condition called Myesthenia Gravis. Medication to avoid debilitating seizures accompanied by temporary paralysis was $80 a month.

Piper was found emaciated, full of worms and near death. She survived the abuse and grew into a beautiful young lady. Cost was approximately $1000.

Turtle was chained for life with no way out. She wasn’t spayed, vaccinated, tested postive for HW and eyes were severely covered over by cherry eye. Her vet bill came to about $1000.

As the cost of medical care and supplies continues to rise, so does our debt, which now stands at $20,000.
