And so it was that this past April Alex and I went on a vacation of a life time. We went to Florida for a family reunion. Among other places we went to St. Augustine, the oldest city in the US. My family rented a section of motel bungalows and we had a spot of beach all to ourselves.
It was marvelous. We had the prefect spot on earth where my old dog was able to be about off leash. Of course, we did the normal touristy things and checked out downtown St. Augustine and the old fort. We went to a rookery at an Alligator Farm where the trees were full of nests and birds of every description. But mostly we walked the beach every day at least once in blustery weather, rain and sunshine and that was Alex’s favorite. The smiles on his face, the joy in his step were priceless. He overcame his fear of the foamy waves and soon splashed in the water with content. He checked out the birds and the turtles. And he loved the freedom of running on the beach in the early morning sunlight. Here are some pictures of the marvelous times my old dog Alex had.
